Buying glasses online in Nepal: how to get the size right
Find the three numbers printed inside the temple arm of a pair that fits you, for example 52-18-140. That is lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. Choose a new frame within 2 mm of the first two numbers. No old pair? Measure your face width at the temples with a ruler; the frame width should match it.
Buying glasses online in Nepal goes right when you know one thing: the size of a frame is printed inside the temple arm as three numbers, for example 52-18-140. Match the first two numbers of a pair that already fits you to within 2 mm and the new frame will fit. If you have no old pair, a ruler across your face at the temples gives you the frame width you need. That is the whole method, and it is how most of our online orders go right the first time.
Reading the three numbers
- 52 is the width of one lens in millimetres.
- 18 is the bridge, the gap over your nose between the lenses.
- 140 is the temple length from hinge to tip.
Some frames print a small square between the first two numbers; ignore it. The numbers are on every Blurkart product page under the photos, so you can compare directly.
Which number matters most
The bridge. Get it 3 mm too wide and the glasses slide down your nose all day. Get it 3 mm too narrow and they pinch and leave marks. Many Nepali faces have a lower nose bridge than the frames designed for European faces expect; if your old pair always slid, look for a slightly narrower bridge or a frame with adjustable nose pads, like the Premium Round Metal Frame at NPR 999.
Lens width and bridge together give the total frame width. Twice the lens plus the bridge, plus a few millimetres for the rim, is the number to match to your face.
No old pair? Measure your face
Stand in front of a mirror with a ruler held flat across your face at the temples, just past the outer corners of the eyes. Read the width in millimetres; most adults are between 130 and 145. A frame with a total width equal to that, or up to 5 mm wider, will fit. Temple length is the least fussy: 135 to 145 suits almost everyone, and we adjust the curve behind the ear at fitting anyway.

Buying glasses online in Nepal: how an order works at Blurkart
- Pick the frame and check the size numbers against yours.
- At checkout, choose the lens you want, or frame only if you will bring the prescription later.
- Send a photo of your prescription with the order, or book the free test at the showroom.
- Pay online or choose cash on delivery. Delivery inside Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur is NPR 90.
- Frame-only orders arrive next day. Lens orders take two to five days depending on the lens.
If the frame arrives and the fit is wrong, exchange it. We cut lenses only after the frame is confirmed, so an exchange costs you nothing but a day.
Things that do not show in photos
Weight. A thick acetate frame can be 30 grams; a thin metal one under 15. If your last pair left marks on your nose, go lighter. Our post on choosing frames for a round face covers shape, which photos also flatten.
Lens height. If you are getting progressives, the lens needs to be at least 30 mm tall. The product page lists it. A fashionable shallow frame will not carry a progressive comfortably.
Online chasma in Nepal: what changed and what did not
Five years ago almost nobody in Nepal bought glasses online, because the lens fitting needs a person. That part has not changed; someone still has to measure your pupils and cut the lens to the frame. What changed is that the frame choice, the payment and the delivery can all happen from your phone, and the fitting happens at our end.
So the sensible way to do it: choose and pay online, send the prescription photo, and let us fit. Or choose online and walk in for the free test, which is how most Kathmandu customers do it now. Delivery inside the Valley is NPR 90; outside the Valley we ship by courier and the lenses are fitted before it leaves.
The one thing that still catches people is size, which is why this whole post is about three numbers on a temple arm. Match them, and the rest is easy.
When in doubt, order two frames and exchange the one you do not keep. It is cheaper than a wrong pair you stop wearing.
